My mom passed away in 2005 but will always be the person most responsible for helping me become the person I am.

Yagoda Tyszka-Krayewski immigrated to the United
States in 1985. Originally coming to New York City, she settled down in Newark.
An active member of her community, Yagoda came to love the United States and
her adopted hometown of Newark. Yagoda
was an active volunteer in the Mt. Vernon School Parent Teacher Association,
the Ivy Hill Neighborhood Association and the New Jersey Music Educators
Association. She
organized various youth-oriented events; talent shows, music education programs
and children’s concerts, and participated on various levels of community
organizing and activism. Yagoda
loved everyone around her and cared about all children; opening her home and
her heart. She received a special recognition award from the Mt. Vernon PTA in
May 1991, her first year with a child in the Newark Public Schools. She is also
the recipient of the SPF Arthur Ashe Inner-City Tennis Program “Mother of Ivy
Hill” Award. In
Poland, Yagoda was a renowned actress, pianist and composer; creating music for
such dramatic productions as Anton Chekov’s “The Cherry Orchard”.
